Situation

  • TMC also recommends periodically removing gauges from air cleaners, & operation checked w/ vacuum pump
  • When changing air filters, Freightliner recommends completely inspecting air intake piping from air cleaner to engine
  • Another good habit is routinely auditing engine electronic control module parameters

Significant Points

  • Kenworth Truck white paper on fuel economy reminds fleets not to use engine, transmission or axle lubes of a higher viscosity than recommended for specific equipment & operating conditions
  • Minimum satisfactory specifications for diesel fuel can be found in TMC’s Recommended Practice 304B
  • According to tire manufacturers, tires can contribute, thru rolling resistance, up to 35% to level-road fuel consumption
