MR2 SPYDER ROADSTER

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.- January 25, 2000 - Toyota announced today the price of the all-new 2000 MR2 Spyder. When the two-seat mid-engine roadster goes on sale in April, it will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $23,098.

The MR2 Spyder will have a limited production of approximately 5,000 units annually. Standard-equipment will include air conditioning, a three-in-one AM-FM/cassette/CD audio system, anti-lock brakes, power windows and door locks, 15-inch alloy wheels, tilt steering wheel, wind deflector, and a glass rear window with defroster.

The only options will be dealer accessories, such as an interior tonneau cover and front-end mask. A 138-hp four-cylinder engine will power the MR2 Spyder. Peak torque of 125 lb.-ft will be applied to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.

On February 28, 2000, Toyota announced a slight increase in the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) on 2000 ECHO and Celica models.

The price increase, effective immediately, on ECHO affects four-door models only. On a comparably equipped basis, the overall price increase for ECHO is 0.7 percent, or $80.

On a comparably equipped basis, the overall price increase for Celica is 1.0 percent, or $180.


13 NEW PRODUCTS FROM TOYOTA THIS YEAR

Toyota will average one new launch every 40 days for the rest of this year according to an article in Automotive News, dated February 21, 2000.

Last year Toyota introduced the Tundra full-sized pickup, Avalon full-sized sedan, Celica coupe and Echo subcompact. Next year they will launch a Camry-based sport utility and Lexus will add a hardtop roadster.

NEW CHEVY S-10 CREW CAB PICKUP PROVIDES FOUR FULL-SIZE DOORS

CHICAGO - February 10, 2000 - Chevrolet expanded its arsenal of hard-working compact pickups today with the introduction of the 2001 Chevy S-10 Crew Cab 4x4 Pickup, which is scheduled for start of production in the fall of this year. With its combination of versatility, ruggedness and personal comfort, the Chevy S-10 Crew Cab Pickup is ready to tackle virtually any real-life challenge or adventure.

"The Chevy S-10 Pickup in any configuration is about durability, functionality and value," said Debra Kelly-Ennis, S-10 Pickup brand manager. "With four full-size doors and seating for five, the new Chevy S-10 Crew Cab pickup takes functionality to a new dimension. It brings a new level of versatility to the Chevy S-10 family that already boasts one of the most diverse product lines in the industry."

Like all four-wheel drive S-10 Pickup models, the new S-10 Crew Cab is powered by the potent and proven Vortec 4300 V6 engine with 190 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque.

S-10 Crew Cab Pickup offers the Insta-Trac four-wheel drive system as standard equipment. In addition to its handy push-button actuation, Insta-Trac includes a 4WD Low gear for more demanding conditions such as climbing steep grades or driving through deep snow or mud.

A standard, factory-installed cargo bedliner protects the 4-foot, 6-inch cargo bed from dents, dings and scratches often caused by loose or sliding cargo. Sturdy cargo tie-down loops, two-tier loading capability and a rear step bumper provide convenient and secure cargo loading.

Convenient interior features help provide a comfortable, car-like driving experience, with such items as an overhead console with temperature and compass readouts and delayed interior lighting.


NEW 2001 FORD RANGER TAKES IT TO THE 'EDGE'

CHICAGO, Feb. 10, 2000 - The Ford Ranger has had an edge on the competition for a long time, but today a new edgy evolution of the best-selling compact pickup - the 2001 Ford Ranger - debuts at the Chicago Auto Show.

Styling, powertrain performance enhancements and a new series Š the Edge - headline changes to Ford Ranger for the 2001 model year.

Ranger is offered as a Regular Cab, two-door SuperCab or four-door SuperCab with 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain.

Under the hood, a powerful 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 is now available, providing 45 more horsepower and 10 more foot-pounds of torque. The new engine is coupled with a new five-speed, adaptive shift, automatic transmission or a heavy-duty five-speed manual transmission.

The new Edge series is geared to individuals with an active lifestyle who want the capability of the "Built Ford Tough" Ranger pickup along with a sportier, more rugged image.

"The 2001 Ranger is a winner in all aspects of the word - giving customers more of what they want - both in styling and performance," said Jim O'Connor, president of Ford Division. "Customers with active lifestyles seek a vehicle that features driving and performance versatility. We are responding to this demand by offering a Ranger that is tough, athletic and on the edge."

Chassis refinements, including revised front suspension tuning and a sound package, improve ride quality and increase interior quietness while the four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) - now standard across the board - adds confidence to driving under all conditions.

With 13 years of sales leadership in the compact pickup segment under its belt, Ford has proven it knows who its Ranger customers are and what they want in a truck. In calendar year 1999, approximately 350,000 Ranger trucks were sold in the United States.

Ranger is manufactured at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant in St. Paul, Minn. and the Edison Assembly Plant in Edison, N.J.


SATURN UNVEILS 2001 THREE-DOOR COUPE

In January, Saturn displayed its redesigned 2001 SC three-door coupe at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Still the only three-door coupe in the world, the new SC has a more dramatic and sporty exterior, with a variety of interior and mechanical enhancements.

"Our redesigned 2001 SC Coupe reflects numerous changes based on feedback from our two most important audiences - Saturn customers and retailers," said Cynthia Trudell, chairman and president of Saturn. "It is a true example of how we apply customer feedback to new products."

"The evolution of the three-door coupe is truly a testament to Saturn's understanding of the wants and needs of its customers," said Jill Lajdziak, vice president, sales, service and marketing for Saturn Corporation. "The third door began as a suggestion by the eight year old son of a Saturn retailer, and in response to customer demand itÕs now featured on every Saturn SC coupe built."

Changes for the 2001 Coupe include a completely restyled exterior, as well as major enhancements just added six months earlier for the 2000 model year. Those include a new interior, extensive updates in the electronic systems that provide significant new safety and security features, and reduced engine noise.

While Saturn's mildly wedge-shaped body and clean, smooth surfaces continue to form the basis of the distinctive "Saturn swoosh," all body panels below the beltline are new on the 2001 coupe, giving the car a fresh exterior appearance.

On sale this fall, Saturn offers a 3 Years/36,000 mile (whichever comes first) bumper to bumper new vehicle limited warranty with no deductible. Tires are covered separately by the tire manufacturer.


IMPORTANT IMPALA UPDATE

General Motors Fleet and Commercial Operations and the Impala Brand Team are pleased to announce a 2000 Impala "Spring Ordering Incentive" effective with orders received starting February 14, 2000 and continuing through the conclusion of 2000 model year Impala ordering.

This Spring Ordering Incentive provides a new Preferred Equipment Group (ISD) on model 1WF19 for fleet orders only. It is compatible with order types FLS, FNR and FDR that include VX5 (orders with VN9 or VX7 are not eligible).

This new Preferred Equipment Group allows for significant savings by providing highly desired fleet options, such as Cruise Control, Remote Keyless Entry and Power Driver Seat without the necessity of upgrading to a PEG that may include more options than required for your fleet needs. DODGE ESX3 - A FUEL-EFFICIENT VEHICLE

Washington D.C. - February 22, 2000 - In two years, DaimlerChrysler engineers have increased fuel efficiency to 72 miles per gallon (3.3 liters/100 km), improved acceleration and enhanced derivability - while cutting the cost penalty in half.

"A two-mile-per-gallon improvement might not sound like a huge engineering accomplishment, but this car also accelerates faster and provides a smoother, quieter ride while being less aerodynamic than it predecessor, the Dodge Intrepid ESX2," explained Tom Moore, Vice President - DaimlerChrysler Liberty & Technical Affairs. "We also cut the cost penalty in half - from $15,000 down to $7,500 - in two years."

Much of the driving pleasure is the result of ESX3's unique EMAT transmission that combines two separate clutches in a computer-controlled, six-speed system that provides the shifting smoothness of an automatic transmission with the fuel efficiency of a manual. The EMAT transmission uses two clutches acting in tandem to provide seamless acceleration, with no torque interrupt during shifts. The typical manual transmission is 10 percent more fuel-efficient than an automatic transmission.

"The EMAT is a vital link in helping us achieve up to 80 miles per gallon (2.9 liters/100 km)," said Tom Kizer, Director of Advanced Powertrain and Electrical Engineering at DaimlerChrysler Liberty. "All this technology is invisible to the driver, who sees the typical automatic transmission selections of Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive."

The hybrid powertrain, consisting of a three-cylinder, 1.5 liter, all-aluminum direct-injected diesel engine and 15 kilowatt peak power electric motor, advances development of the powertrain in the ESX2.

In addition to the significant challenge of developing highly fuel efficient cars, PNGV engineers are also working on solutions to further reduce exhaust emissions. While the Dodge ESX3 meets the initial emission targets set by the Partnership in 1993, continued work on low-sulfur and synthetic fuels, new exhaust after treatment technologies and cleaner combustion processes is necessary to meet future standards.


NISSAN ANNOUNCES 2000 SENTRA PRICING

Compact Sedan Reduced $150 - $740 Over Previous Model

GARDENA, Calif., Feb. 24 - Nissan North America, Inc. today announced pricing on its all-new 2000 Sentra compact sedan, which goes on sale February 25, 2000. Overall, the 2000 Sentra is $559 less than the 1999 model on a base weighted average comparison. The new Sentra starts at just $11,649 - $150 less than the 1999 Sentra it replaces. The popularly equipped 2000 Sentra GXE with Convenience Package is $740 less than last year's GXE with a Limited Edition Package.

The 2000 Sentra, designed at Nissan Design International, Inc. in La Jolla, CA, is longer, wider and taller than its predecessor and rides on an all-new platform. The interior features a level of appointments not typically seen in cars at this price point, including an 8-way adjustable driver's seat. The new Sentra also offers a larger standard 1.8-liter engine with 126 horsepower, up from the previous model's 1.6-liter 115 horsepower base engine.

The volume trim level, Sentra GXE, offers a long list of standard equipment, including power windows, power door locks and mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control, and a 100-watt AM/FM/CD audio system. The GXE Convenience Package, which is expected to account for around 80 percent of GXE sales, adds a remote keyless entry with trunk release, 60/40 rear seat, valet key, cargo net, and a rear auxiliary power outlet for only $150. A GXE Luxury Package is also available, which adds items such as 15-inch alloy wheels, vehicle immobilizer and security system, and a 180-watt 7-speaker audio system.

The sophisticated Sentra SE model includes a 145-horsepower 2.0-liter engine, 15-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, fog lights, titanium gauges, a front strut tower brace, and stiffer suspension. The SE Performance Package adds a rear spoiler, side sill extensions, 16-inch alloy wheels, sport tuned suspension and a viscous limited-slip differential. The Sentra CA (Clean Air), the cleanest gasoline-powered vehicle in the world, retails at $14,799. Sentra CA will only be available in California.

PIRANHA COMBINES PONTIAC PERFORMANCE WITH INNOVATIVE FUNCTIONALITY AND CUSTOMIZATION

CHICAGO - February 9, 2000 – Pontiac introduced a concept car called the Piranha today at the Chicago Auto Show.

The word "piranha" evokes the image of a creature that's nimble, aggressive, and extremely efficient. Like its namesake, the Pontiac Piranha is "a small package with a big bite." Piranha reiterates the bold, purposeful Pontiac personality for the 21st century, offering simplicity of operation and low-cost performance coupled with unprecedented innovation. "The Piranha concept combines new levels of functionality and versatility with the traditional Pontiac elements of performance, styling, ride and handling," says Pontiac General Manager Lynn Myers.

The surprises start with Piranha's exterior. Although it's a coupe, it comes with back doors that open rearward to provide easy access to the entire interior. An innovative roof rack system pops up when needed, and disassembles easily when not in use. Features such as these, plus Piranha's distinctive athletic stance and dual-colored exterior immediately telegraph Pontiac styling excitement.

Piranha's interior sets a new standard in flexible interior design. Athletic forms, colors and textures emphasize the vehicle's durable, functional character. The interior is highly customized. Fabric panels on the doors and instrument panel can be changed by zipping them on and off, allowing the driver to change color schemes easily. All four seats are designed to be foldable, lightweight and removable - once outside the vehicle, they do double duty as beach chairs. A lightweight tub in the cargo area serves as a trunk or a cooler, and can be removed to provide storage or seating outside the vehicle. Removing the tub creates a flat bed, effectively converting the Piranha into a "mini-pickup" complete with fold-up tailgate.

Even though the emphasis is on flexibility and utility, there's no shortage of traditional Pontiac performance. A supercharged version of the 2.2-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder Ecotec engine provides plenty of fuel-efficient power. There's plenty of stability, too, with the Grand Prix-derived wide track design, 19-inch rear wheels, and 18-inch front wheels. Front wheel drive and an AISIN 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift controls mounted on the steering wheel keep the driver in command and enhance Piranha's fun-to-drive character.

The Piranha concept introduces a new generation of drivers to unsurpassed driving excitement. Says Pontiac Design Manager John Mack, "The Piranha concept can offer young consumers the opportunity to buy new, not used; expressive, not traditional; in a quality performance that meets their very active lifestyle needs."


SUBARU ANNOUNCES PRICES/AVAILABILITY OF 2001 FORESTER

February 16, 2000 - CHERRY HILL, NJ - Subaru of America, Inc., (SOA), announced today the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the 2001 model year Forester model line. For 2001, the Forester continues to set the standard in the small SUV segment for performance, handling, active safety and standard equipment.

All Forester models benefit from redesigned front and rear fascias, which provide a more sophisticated appearance. Its unique combination of AWD handling, car-like ride and SUV versatility sets it apart from the competition. For 2001, Forester is available in the following trim levels: L, S and a new S Model with the Premium Package offering a high level of luxury and utility.

NEW JERSEY SURCHARGE
Revised 12/1/99

To recover anticipated increased costs of conducting business in New Jersey, as a result of recent legislation, General Motors announced to their dealers on October 1, 1999 that effective immediately they were revising prices of 2000 model cars and trucks. This "surcharge" is only added to invoices of vehicles that are shipped to dealers in New Jersey.

Should Ford or DaimlerChrysler follow suit, we will announce it here in the Purchasing News.

If a vehicle is shipped to a New Jersey dealer for delivery out of the state, GM is developing a refund procedure.

The option code on the GM invoice is "R6M - New Jersey Cost Surcharge." The amount of the surcharge varies by model. It ranges from $22 on a Prizm to $227 for a Cadillac Seville. Here is the list of GM surcharges by model:

Ford Motor Company - National Fleet Incentives

On July 2, 1999, Ford announced the following National Fleet Incentives for the 2000 model year cars and trucks. Ford is combining the National Fleet Incentives with the Fleet Marketing Credits for a "Total Fleet Discount" for each vehicle line. This is to provide an accurate comparison between Ford vehicles and the facing GM products for the 2000 model year. Their national incentives have been increased to compensate for the elimination of marketing credits to fleet customers for 2000. The "Total Fleet Incentive" should avoid confusion that may exist due to the GM fleet program change.

Qualified Buyers: Those accounts registering 3 or more units of any make in a twelve month period, as evidenced by vehicle registration documentation. When a leasing company is the registered entity, the end-user of the vehicle must meet the test of an eligible account. Subaru of America (SOA), at its discretion, may require physical evidence of 3 vehicle registrations to verify an accounts eligiblity or a copy of the lease agreement with the end-user noted. A Fleet Identification Number (FIN) must be assigned to the purchasing account. In the case of leasing companies, the purchasing account and the end-user must be assigned FIN's.
