PONTIAC AZTEK PRICING IS ANNOUNCED

DETROIT — March 13, 2000 - General Motors announced pricing on the all-new 2001 Pontiac Aztek will start at $21,995 MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) for the base model and $24,995 MSRP for the uplevel Aztek GT when they begin arriving at dealer showrooms this summer. Both prices include a destination charge of $550.

"With Aztek, we are offering a totally new level of versatility that adapts to active lifestyles. This new standard of versatility will dramatically change what people expect from their vehicles," said Don Butler, Aztek brand manager.

Standard equipment on the base Aztek model includes driver and passenger front- and side-impact air bags, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, air-conditioning, power door locks and windows, power liftgate release, power dual outside rear view mirrors, convenience net and cargo security cover. Additional equipment may be added such as cruise control, traction control, roof rack and cargo net systems, sliding rear cargo tray, AM/FM in-dash 6-disc changer with cassette and ten speakers including rear cargo area radio controls, deep tinted glass, and remote keyless entry.

The Aztek GT, features exclusive standard equipment such as a driver information center, leather steering wheel with radio controls, removable console/cooler and front door utility packs, dual zone air-conditioning system, overhead console, lighted vanity mirrors, driver 4-way manual seat with lumbar adjusters, and expressive premium cloth interior.

 

 

Optional GT model equipment includes heads up display, 6-way power driver seat, leather seating, heated front seats, rear captain's chairs, rear-seat audio, theft deterrent alarm system and OnStar communication service.

By combining the best attributes of a sport sedan, a sport utility vehicle, and a minivan, Aztek is designed for innovative, fun-loving drivers who are searching for a more versatile vehicle. Aztek brings a new Dimension to Pontiac "Driving Excitement" and reinforces on-the-edge, innovative thinking for General Motors.

Pricing of Aztek all-wheel drive models with the new sophisticated Versatrak system will be released at a later date.

 


2001 LUMINA FOR DAILY RENTAL

Chevrolet announced on March 7, 2000 that the 2001 Lumina would be primarily designed to supply rental vehicles. John Moran, Director of Customer support said "Exceptions will be made for those customers who, for business reasons, must order a Lumina(s), and we will review these situations on a case-by-case basis."

Production on the 2001 model will begin on July 22, 2000.


INCREASED DESTINATION CHARGES

Effective with shipments on March 14, 2000, DaimlerChrysler increased destination charges by $25 on most vehicles. Add $50 to all destination charges for Hawaii and $25 for Alaska.

Ford Motor Company announced a destination charge increase of $25 effective March 6, 2000.

GM announced on March 10, 2000 an increase of $10 to $40 on destination charges.


FORD EXPLORER CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY

DEARBORN, Mich., March 15, 2000 - Today marks an important milestone in automotive history - the 10th Anniversary of the Ford Explorer. INFINITI ANNOUNCES 2001 QX4 PRICING

- Luxury Sport-Utility Vehicle Offers 70 More Horsepower Without Price Increase -

GARDENA, Ca. (March 15, 2000) – Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan North America, Inc. today announced pricing on its 2001 QX4 sport utility vehicle, which goes on sale this month at all of its 150 retailers nationwide. The new QX4, with its advanced All-Mode 4WDÒ system, remains priced at $35,550 — the same MSRP as the 2000 model despite an extensive list of refinements including a new 240 horsepower 3.5 liter V6 engine. New for 2001 is a 4x2 model, which is competitively priced at $34,150.

The 2001 QX4 delivers vastly improved performance through use of an all-new 3.5 liter V6 engine, which utilizes the same technology in the award-winning I30 V6. The new QX4's standard V6 and automatic transmission is rated at 240 horsepower and 265 ft-lbs. of torque - a 40% increase over the 3.3 liter V6-equipped 2000 model it replaces.

Inside, the 2001 QX4 gets interior revisions including a redesigned instrument panel and center stack. Some of the revisions include new electro-flourescent meter illumination, in-dash Bose 6-disc CD changer audio system, optional Navigation system, available leather/wood-tone steering wheel, heated rear seats and Infiniti's signature analog clock.

Exterior revisions to the QX4 include changes to the front grille/bumper, revised rear finisher/bumper, enhanced side-cladding, new headlight design incorporating high density discharge (HID) Xenon headlights w/manual levelizer and optional 17" aluminum-alloy wheels.

Infiniti is supported by a network of approximately 150 retailers throughout North America and offers a range of luxury vehicles including the Infiniti QX4 luxury Sport Utility Vehicle, G20 sports sedan, I30 luxury sedan, and flagship Q45 luxury performance sedan.


TOYOTA'S ALL-NEW FOUR-DOOR TACOMA DOUBLE CAB PICKUP

CHICAGO, February 9, 2000 - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A. Inc., today unveiled the all-new four-door Tacoma Double Cab compact pickup at a news conference at the Chicago Auto Show. The 2001 Tacoma Double Cab is one of five all-new light truck products Toyota will bring to market over the next 12 months.

"This year, Toyota will step up the pace in broadening the Tacoma compact pickup line-up, in response to what is emerging as one of the most-diverse buyer segments in the industry," said Don Esmond, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager. "Tacoma Double Cab is a key part of a strategy designed to elevate the Toyota brand to a position among the industry leaders in the North American light-truck segment. For Toyota, this will be the ‘Year of the Truck and SUV.'"

When it arrives at Toyota dealers in October, the Tacoma Double Cab will deliver the cargo-hauling capability of a pickup truck, the passenger roominess and comfort of an SUV and rugged styling that makes a strong active-lifestyle statement.

The Tacoma Double Cab will be offered in SR5 and Limited trim levels with available off-road package, in either the two-wheel drive PreRunner series with four- or six-cylinder engines, or as a 4x4 -- powered exclusively by the 190-horsepower six.

Tacoma Double Cab will offer eleven inches of class-leading ground clearance, and a 61-inch cargo bed. Its four, large conventional doors open to a well-appointed and roomy interior featuring spacious front and rear seating and a 60/40 fold-down rear bench seat.


THE CHEVROLET SSR

Part Heritage, Part Function, Part Flexibility ... All Fun

DETROIT — January 10, 2000 - When you blend two of the auto industry's hottest segments into one vehicle, you're bound to have something special on your hands, and that's just what Chevrolet has with the new SSR concept.

The SSR (Super Sport Roadster) seamlessly combines the function and utility of a pickup with the performance and open-air excitement of a sports roadster.

And it does so by tapping into decades of Chevrolet heritage, evident in its stylish design and in the take-no-prisoners performance of its 6.0-liter V-8.

This SSR may appear to be a very expressive pickup concept, albeit snazzier and sportier than most. But when a flip of a switch moves its power retractable hardtop into the open-roof position, the SSR is revealed to be like nothing that's ever gone before.

And it's clearly a Chevrolet. It sports a full-width grille bar and proudly wears a Bow Tie up front, and has another full-width bar across its backside. Its form-fitting fender flares are distinctly Chevy – even if they're slightly more outrageous than on any of the SSR's predecessors.

"The SSR will appeal to enthusiasts of all ages," said Kurt Ritter, Chevrolet general manager. "The design draws you in, and the performance keeps you there."

"The Chevrolet Bow Tie has long stood for spirited, functional cars and trucks," Ritter added. "The SSR brings the best of both worlds to the extreme. A rear-drive roadster with a 6.0-liter V-8 is about as spirited as it gets, and what could be more functional than a roadster with a cargo bed?"


FORD ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR LIMITED EDITION 2000 HARLEY-DAVIDSON F-150

DEARBORN, Mich., February 25, 2000 – Ford Motor Company has announced that the limited edition 2000 Harley-Davidson F-150 pickup truck, the first vehicle jointly developed by the two legendary companies, will be offered with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $32,995.

"The Harley-Davidson F-150 is an exciting truck designed by two icons of the American road, reflecting the ‘Authentic American Muscle' tradition of both companies," said George Magro, project manager of the Ford and Harley-Davidson Alliance. "This is the first of more exciting products to come," added Magro.

Up to 7,500 of the trucks can be produced for North America at Ford's Ontario Truck Plant in Canada. Each will be a black monochromatic 4x2 SuperCab pickup with distinctive Harley-Davidson orange pinstriping, chrome grille and brightwork with a flareside box topped by a hard shell tonneau cover. The 260 horsepower 5.4 liter TritonÔ V-8 single overhead cam engine powers massive 20x9-inch five-spoke chromed cast aluminum wheels and P275/45R 20 Goodyear Eagle GTII tires - the first ever 20-inch wheels on a Ford production vehicle.

Inside, the truck features the famous look of Harley-Davidson accessories, including a dash ornament, black leather trimmed seats and a unique "spun metal" instrument cluster. The exhaust is a sport-tuned SVT Lightning muffler ending in dual chrome 3-1/2-inch "slash cut" exhaust tips. The suspension is lowered one inch and rides on specially tuned SVT Lightning shocks.

The three available options include a six disc CD changer ($400), a sliding rear window ($125) and an engine block heater ($90).

Ford and Harley-Davidson announced their alliance last year at Daytona Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Florida. The two companies unveiled the unique Harley-Davidson F-150 last August at the Sturgis, South Dakota Rally & Races. The alliance provides the opportunity for the two companies to jointly develop and market exciting products, like the limited edition Harley-Davidson F-150 and a line of unique automotive accessories and apparel, available only through Ford dealerships and www.icollection.com. The alliance also will include celebrations of each company's centennial in 2003.


NEW CREW CAB MODEL EXPANDS SONOMA'S VERSATILITY

CHICAGO — February 10, 2000 — GMC's strong heritage as a premiere truck manufacturer took on a bold new dimension today, with the Division's introduction of the 2001 GMC Sonoma Crew Cab 4x4 Pickup.

"We describe GMC Sonoma as the compact pickup that handles roads as well as it handles loads," said Sonoma Brand Manager Chris Mazglad. "With four full-size doors and seating for five, the 'load' part of the equation - more than ever before - refers to people as well as cargo."

According to Mazglad, the new Sonoma Crew Cab Pickup will increase the brand's appeal among families and hard-working professionals such as contractors and developers who need to transport clients and crews comfortably and securely through and around worksites. Families will be able to transport children in the full rear seat - even those in child safety seats - for trips to the lumberyard, garden center or grocery store. This added capacity is expected to boost Sonoma's appeal to new buyers.

 

 

Sonoma Crew Cab features the impressive power of the durable Vortec 4300 V6 engine with 190 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to a standard four-speed electronic automatic transmission.

A standard, factory-installed cargo bedliner protects the 4-foot, 6-inch cargo bed from dents, dings and scratches that are often caused by loose or sliding cargo. Sturdy tie- down loops, two-tier loading capability and a rear step bumper provide convenient and secure cargo loading.

"GMC vehicles have earned a reputation as professional grade vehicles that serious truck owners recognize as the right tools for the job," said Mazglad. "The new Sonoma Crew Cab Pickup offers them the classic GMC toughness, capability and security they expect, but adds an entirely new level of versatility."

The new Sonoma Crew Cab Pickup, along with the new S10 Crew Cab Pickup will be available at GMC and Chevy dealerships this fall.

 


SVT MUSTANG COBRA R SETS PERFORMANCE BENCHMARK

The Ford Special Vehicle Team's 2000 SVT Mustang Cobra R is the pony car icon taken to the extreme of pure performance. Developed specifically for racing, 300 of these vehicles will be built at Ford's Dearborn Assembly Plant in March 2000, and shipped to selected SVT certified dealers.

"This is the fastest, the best-handling Mustang ever. It will set a performance benchmark for the competition," says John Coletti, Ford Special Vehicle Engineering manager. "Cobra R combines high-performance hardware and engineering that go a long way toward making it the best of the breed."

Tom Scarpello, specialty vehicle marketing manager at Ford, says the 2000 Cobra R is both a race car and a modern icon. "Three hundred people will be able to have a lot of fun in this car, and be very competitive racing it," Scarpello says. "That's what Mustang, and Cobra R in particular, is all about. This car elevates the whole idea of Mustang - without changing what it's been for more than 35 years."

 

Cobra R equipment includes a 385-horsepower (estimated) 5.4-liter 4-valve DOHC V8 engine from Ford's modular family, a McLeod aluminum flywheel, a Tremec six-speed manual transmission, 18 x 9.5-inch wheels and tires, Brembo 4-piston aluminum front brake calipers, Eibach racing springs, and a 21-gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell. A rear wing and front splitter provides high-speed aerodynamic stability. The car's top speed is more than 170 mph.

 


SAAB TO UNVEIL NEW, UNIQUE ENGINE CONCEPT TODAY AT GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

NORCROSS, Ga.- Feb 28, 2000 - Saab has developed an entirely new engine concept - Saab Variable Compression (SVC) – that radically cuts fuel consumption without impairing engine performance. Compared to a conventional engine, the SVC engine uses considerably more of the energy in the fuel.

The SVC concept, which has been developed by Saab's engine designers, features a unique system for varying the compression ratio, which makes it possible to cut fuel consumption without weakening performance. It also allows the engine to run on fuels of different types and of varying quality.

The SVC concept represents a leap forward in the development of the four-stroke gasoline engine and will provide a new platform for future engine development. The fact that the compression ratio is now a variable parameter opens vast new opportunities for more accurately controlling the work of the engine, therefore improving its efficiency.

NEW JERSEY SURCHARGE
Revised 12/1/99

To recover anticipated increased costs of conducting business in New Jersey, as a result of recent legislation, General Motors announced to their dealers on October 1, 1999 that effective immediately they were revising prices of 2000 model cars and trucks. This "surcharge" is only added to invoices of vehicles that are shipped to dealers in New Jersey.

Should Ford or DaimlerChrysler follow suit, we will announce it here in the Purchasing News.

If a vehicle is shipped to a New Jersey dealer for delivery out of the state, GM is developing a refund procedure.

The option code on the GM invoice is "R6M - New Jersey Cost Surcharge." The amount of the surcharge varies by model. It ranges from $22 on a Prizm to $227 for a Cadillac Seville. Here is the list of GM surcharges by model:

Ford Motor Company - National Fleet Incentives

On July 2, 1999, Ford announced the following National Fleet Incentives for the 2000 model year cars and trucks. Ford is combining the National Fleet Incentives with the Fleet Marketing Credits for a "Total Fleet Discount" for each vehicle line. This is to provide an accurate comparison between Ford vehicles and the facing GM products for the 2000 model year. Their national incentives have been increased to compensate for the elimination of marketing credits to fleet customers for 2000. The "Total Fleet Incentive" should avoid confusion that may exist due to the GM fleet program change.

Qualified Buyers: Those accounts registering 3 or more units of any make in a twelve month period, as evidenced by vehicle registration documentation. When a leasing company is the registered entity, the end-user of the vehicle must meet the test of an eligible account. Subaru of America (SOA), at its discretion, may require physical evidence of 3 vehicle registrations to verify an accounts eligiblity or a copy of the lease agreement with the end-user noted. A Fleet Identification Number (FIN) must be assigned to the purchasing account. In the case of leasing companies, the purchasing account and the end-user must be assigned FIN's.
