Additionally, we have added an alternative Taurus SE early order incentive for those customers who prefer cassette instead of CD.

EARLY ORDER INCENTIVES – Deadline is September 30, 2000

Below are the 2001MY early order incentives. The additional Taurus SE incentive has been noted.

These exceptional packages are available free of charge on vehicles ordered now through September 30, 2000. Units must be produced by December 22, 2000. Note equipment package value amounts are MSRP when options are priced separately.

The Sable Fleet Option Group (60F code) is available on GS Sedans for commercial fleet accounts only. This package is available at no charge on vehicles ordered now through September 30, 2000. Units must be produced by December 22, 2000. This group includes a power driver's seat w/lumbar support and 7-spoke alloy wheels - a $790 value (MSRP when options priced separately).

Explorer 4-door orders submitted by September 30, 2000 are eligible for an early order incentive of $500 (B3F code). Production will be available through December 1, 2000. The early order incentive is in addition to the national incentive of $750.

FORD DIVISION HOLDS THE LINE ON PRICES FOR 2001 MODEL YEAR

DEARBORN, June 22, 2000 - Customers shopping for a new car or truck from Ford Division will find prices essentially unchanged from the 2000 model year. The average comparably-equipped retail price for Ford Division’s 2001 model year vehicles has been reduced three tenths of one percent compared with the final 2000 model year prices. Including price changes for added standard equipment, average prices are up eight tenths of a percent.

"By holding the line on prices and passing on to customers ordering and manufacturing efficiencies, we are able to give consumers the products and features they want at an affordable price," Ford Division President Jim O’Connor said. "We continue to offer more safety features as standard equipment. This year, all vehicles have dual front-impact air bags and all trucks will have four-wheel ABS brakes. These actions are designed to improve customer satisfaction by increasing value to the customer."

For the 2001 model year, Ford Division has continued its simplified customer offerings to many more vehicles, including the 2001 Ford Focus, Mustang, Ranger, Explorer Sport and Explorer Sport Trac.

These simplified offerings provide better-equipped vehicles, providing more value to the consumer and improved efficiency to Ford Motor Company. The simplified offerings were the result of extensive customer research and customer purchase trends.

For example, the popular Ford Focus ZTS remains at $15,725 MSRP while standardizing 16-inch wheels, fog lamps and floor mats at no price increase. The Windstar SEL has added signal mirrors, keyless entry and adjustable pedals with an increase of only $100. This equipment is valued at $250. The Windstar Limited has added memory seats, heated seats, wood/leather steering wheel and signal mirrors for no added price. This equipment is valued at $1,015. The Ranger XLT Supercab 4x2 features four doors, a 3.0 liter engine, automatic transmission, power locks and windows for $19,620, a $70 reduction from its final 2000 model year price.

"This continues a trend by Ford Motor Company to show pricing restraint, pass productivity savings through to the consumer and provide an easier and more pleasing purchase process," O’Connor said. "We’ve stated that our goal is to become the world’s leading consumer company providing automotive products and services, and our 2001 model year pricing strategy was developed with a focus on the customer, including an emphasis on product simplification and value."

Vehicles continue to be at their most affordable levels in nearly two decades, according to the Auto Affordability Index compiled by Detroit-based Comerica Bank.

"Not since the second quarter of 1980 have cars been this affordable," said David Littman, Comerica chief economist.

Ford Division’s innovative product lineup offers a new Ranger Edge series, new Escape SUV and restyled Windstar with new SE Sport model.

Suggested retail prices announced today for 2001 model vehicles are effective immediately. Public introduction for most 2001 models is scheduled for Sept. 28, 2000. Dealers are taking orders now for delivery to customers upon receipt of the vehicles from the factory.

MAZDA ANNOUNCES PRICE OF 2001 TRIBUTE
IRVINE, Calif., June 20, 2000 - Mazda today announced it has set prices of the all-new 2001 Mazda Tribute sport-utility vehicle, starting at an eye-popping $17,005 for the DX model equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and manual transmission. Tribute models equipped with the 200-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine and standard automatic transmission start at $19,140. The 2001 Tribute, which Mazda calls "the SUV with the soul of a sports car," goes on sale this summer.

"The Tribute is an important vehicle for Mazda and for our dealers," said Stephen Odell, vice president of marketing and sales for Mazda North American Operations. "The pricing of the Tribute makes it an exceptional value compared to larger compact SUVs and smaller four-cylinder mini-SUVs. The combination of our competitive pricing, exciting new Tribute launch advertising and the product attributes of the vehicle itself will enable us to meet our aggressive sales targets for the second half of 2000 and beyond."

The all-new Tribute has the hardware to back up the "soul of a sports car" claim, including responsive, fully independent, sport-tuned front strut and multilink rear suspension and sharp responsive steering feel that was inspired by the Miata. The 2001 Tribute is available in three trim levels—DX, LX and ES. There are two engine choices—a 200-horsepower, DOHC, 24-valve, 3.0-liter V6 and a 130-horsepower, DOHC, 16-valve, 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. The Tribute is available with front-wheel drive or with an on-demand Rotary Blade Coupling™ four-wheel-drive system that gives it all-road, all-weather capability.

2001 TOYOTA COROLLA IS NOW AT DEALERSHIP NATIONWIDE

Torrance, CA – June 9, 2000 - The restyled Toyota Corolla is the first 2001 model in the company’s full line of vehicles to arrive at dealerships nationwide.

On sale now, the Corolla has been synonymous with reliability, quality and value for more than 33 years. Since its introduction, more Corollas have been sold worldwide than any other nameplate.

Numerous refinements to exterior styling give Corolla a more expressive and aggressive image. Corolla’s exterior has been enhanced with a fresh new front fascia that features aerodynamic multi-reflector halogen four-beam headlights, chrome-plated trim and a lowered front bumper. New taillights with round reverse lamps match the circular high-beam lights for a consistent overall appearance. There are color-keyed body side moldings on select models for a clean, flush exterior.

Interior enhancements offer more convenience and comfort. There are new seat fabrics, push-button air recirculation control for easier operation and the LE grade has adopted a rearview mirror with integrated map lights. In select models with automatic transmissions, there are now rear dual cup holders and a larger center console compartment with armrest for more storage capacity.

Corolla is available in three different trim levels: CE, LE, and the new sporty S. All models are powered by an in-line four-cylinder, 1.8-liter, 16-valve, DOHC, all-aluminum engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) technology. This extremely lightweight, compact, and high performance engine achieves excellent fuel economy and low emissions. The Corolla is clean enough to be certified as a low emission vehicle (LEV). The engine produces 125 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 125 lb./ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm.

All Corollas are equipped with a standard five-speed manual transmission. The S and LE grades are available with a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The CE trim level also is available with a three-speed automatic transmission.

Corolla’s exceptional fuel economy has been further improved. Models equipped with the five-speed manual transmission now deliver a city/highway EPA mileage estimate of 32/41 mpg. CE models with the three-speed automatic transmission achieve a mileage estimate of 29/33 mpg and Corollas with the four-speed automatic transmission carry a mileage estimate of 30/39 mpg.

All U.S. market Corollas are North American-built at New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. in Fremont, Calif., and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Canada, in Cambridge, Ontario.


ASSEMBLY PLANT DOWN-TIME

Ford will close most US vehicle assembly plants for two weeks beginning at the end of work on Friday June 30, 2000 and resume production on Monday July 17, 2000. Canadian and Mexican Assembly plants will close some time during July for two weeks.

Ford Employees are encouraged to take vacations during plant closings, except for critical work areas.

GM & DaimlerChrysler stagger plant closings during July.

Nissan’s assembly plant in Smyrna, TN will be closed from June 26th through July 10th for model change-over.

Toyota will change over model year production as follows:

NUMMI Assembly Plant in Fremont, CA (builds Corolla and Tacoma) week of July 4th.

TMMK Assembly Plant in Georgetown, KY (builds Camry, Sienna & Avalon) week of July 17th.

TMMC Assembly Plant in Caimbridge, Canada (builds Corolla & Solara) week of July 17th.

TMMI Assembly Plant in Princeton, IN (builds Tundra) week of July 31.


DC AND MIT "SPOTLIGHT" UNIQUE AUDIO TECHNOLOGY

Auburn Hills, Mich. – June 12, 2000 - The days of fighting over who gets to choose the music during family trips may soon be over, thanks to a collaborative effort between DaimlerChrysler Corporation and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Media Lab.

The Dodge MAXXcab concept truck is the first automotive application of Audio Spotlight™ - an MIT Media Lab technology that directs a narrow beam of sound much like a spotlight projects light. Only the person whom the sound beam is "shined" at can hear it. This makes it possible for each passenger to listen to something completely different without interfering with each other.

"The variety of sound sources is only going to increase with the availability of voice-enabled navigation, e-mail, cell phones, video games and movies in your future vehicle," said Steve Buckley, electrical product innovation manager at DaimlerChrysler Corp. "The Dodge MAXXcab is a great test bed for this technology because it already includes features such as the back-seat 'Edu-tainment' system for the kids and front-seat plug-and-play computer with voice-activated features."

In the MAXXcab, four Audio Spotlights are imbedded in the headliner directly above the passengers. Two speakers "shine" on the front-seat passengers while the other speakers are aimed at rear-seat passengers creating two distinct audio environments. In future applications, each passenger could have a unique sound environment, Buckley said.

The technology was developed as an MIT Media Lab project by 27-year-old Joe Pompei. The MIT student and occasional musician was frustrated by the inability to control sound from traditional speakers.

"The location of sound, and how it is distributed around the listener, greatly defines the listening experience," Pompei explains. "We're used to doing this with light -- we already use light bulbs, spotlights and projectors to control our visual environment. With the Audio Spotlight, we can now have the same control over sound."

The Audio Spotlight consists of a thin, circular transducer array and a specially designed signal processor and amplifier. The lightweight transducer is about one-half inch thick and nonmagnetic. The signal processor and amplifier are integrated into a system about the same size as a traditional audio amplifier and it has similar power requirements.

Unlike traditional speakers that transmit non-directed audible sound at wavelengths of several feet, the Audio Spotlight transmits millimeter-sized, ultrasonic waves which form a very narrow beam of sound which becomes audible as it travels through the air. The current system produces relatively low-volume sound at typical passenger positions as it has not been optimized for close-range listening, Pompei said. It is currently designed for long-range projection and further development in transducer design will solve that problem, he added.

"Personalization of the various info-tainment features is a key development area for DaimlerChrysler," Buckley added. "This is especially important for the driver who needs useful information like traffic updates without being distracted by their spouse's music or a child's video game."

The Audio Spotlight technology is still in development research and has commercial interest from several MIT Media Lab sponsors representing a variety of industries, Pompei said. None of the technologies in the system are inherently expensive, and many components are actually smaller than today's systems, according to Pompei. If produced in volume, he anticipates it could be competitively priced with conventional audio systems.


GM LAUNCHES PHASE ONE OF INNOVATIVE HUMMER

WEBSITE ENTHUSIASTS TO PROVIDE INPUT ON HUMMER

VEHICLE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

Detroit, MI – June 15, 2000, General Motors launched an all-new redesign of the www.HUMMER.com website. This friendly consumer site is geared towards HUMMER owners and enthusiasts and will provide Internet surfers the opportunity to experience all things HUMMER.

Currently, online individuals will be able to configure and price a HUMMER H1, locate dealers in their area, buy HUMMER merchandise, keep up-to-date on Team HUMMER racing activities, and download HUMMER items such as photos, screensavers and wallpapers. In addition, enthusiasts can retrieve information on the HUMMER H2 Vision Vehicle, a concept truck recently unveiled at the 2000 North American International Auto Show. The website users also will have access to HUMMER Adventures, a newsletter complete with HUMMER stories and up-coming events.

The HUMMER.com site will be continually updated with a variety of new features. Viewers will be able to retrieve product development information on the HUMMER H2 production vehicle. In the near future, users can download an interactive HUMMER video game. In a special "Owners Only" section of the website, HUMMER owners will be able to share off-road, travel and personal experiences in their HUMMER with other owners.

In the future, owners will have the opportunity to join a HUMMER Advisory Council. This Advisory Council will be set up to solicit feedback from owners on potential vehicle innovations such as future exterior and interior enhancements.

This is the first GM-produced HUMMER website since GM acquired the rights to market the HUMMER brand from AM General Corporation. In May, the site received 9.8 million hits and traffic to the updated site is expected to rise significantly. The HUMMER website also can be accessed through www.GM.com.

In an agreement between General Motors and AM General reached in December 1999, GM acquired exclusive ownership of the HUMMER brand name worldwide. As part of this agreement, the two companies are jointly developing future HUMMER derivatives as part of a partnership to pursue product, marketing and distribution opportunities for HUMMER 4x4 off-road vehicles.


ALL-NEW 2002 INFINITI Q45

An all-new, third generation Infiniti Q45 is scheduled to go on sale in April 2001 as a 2002 model at more than 150 Infiniti retailers nationwide.

The new Q45 develops 340 horsepower (an increase of more than 25 percent from the current Q45) from its all-new 4.5-liter V8 engine design – powerful enough to produce estimated zero to 60 mph acceleration times of 5.9 seconds (nearly two seconds faster than the 2000 Q45).

The serious nature of the 2002 Q45 is immediately evident – day or night – with one glance at the Q’s large, multi-lens projector high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. Seven individual lenses and a free-surface reflector design combine to provide a wide distribution beam pattern utilizing a large luminous flux – creating what should be the most powerful headlight system available in the world.

The new Q’s distinctive and dynamic exterior form is wider and taller than the current Q45 and the wheelbase has been stretched nearly two inches, though overall length remains the same as the 2000 model. Exterior styling highlights include a large, Infiniti-style front grille, a sculpted hood, integrated front bumper, a high-class silhouette, raised rear deck, large taillights and a choice of 17-inch or 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels with wide performance tires.

The Q45’s new DVD-based "Bird View" navigation system utilizes the same video screen, as does a new Rear View Monitor system. With the aid of a small camera mounted near the rear license plate, a back view is automatically displayed when the driver selects "reverse" with the automatic transmission shifter lever.

A new Adaptive Cruise Control system uses a sensor to measure distance to a vehicle ahead. The system uses this information to control throttle and brake actuators to maintain a preset following distance.

The 2002 Q45’s standard safety features dual front-seat supplemental air bags, new inflatable side-impact SRS curtain/thorax air bags for head and chest protection and active head restraints.

Other innovative systems include an electronic key system and run-flat tires (17-inch only), which allow the driver to drive up to 55 mph for a distance of 50 miles after a puncture. The run-flat tires are equipped with a low pressure monitoring system, which notifies the driver in the case of a puncture.


LEXUS ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR FIRST CONVERTIBLE

Lexus announced on April 20, 2000 that it will introduce its first convertible, the SC 430, in spring 2001.

The new SC 430 has an elegant design and a retractable hardtop that will transform it from a 2+2 coupe into a convertible with the push of a button. The production model will be powered by the new Lexus 4.3 V8 engine, that will make its first U.S. appearance in the redesigned LS 430, on sale this fall. The SC 430 engine will produce a potent 300 horsepower.

The SC 430’s design will feature functional beauty with sleek lines and intelligent packaging. Lexus designers from Europe and Japan worked together to create the convertible. The exterior was crafted by the company’s European design center.

The retractable aluminum hardtop provides similar versatility in the SC 430. A simple push of one button will raise or lower the roof, while still leaving room in the trunk for a set of golf clubs. The 2+2 layout will offer room in the back seats for small children or extra cargo.

A long wheelbase and short overhangs will give the SC 430 a muscular stance, highlighted by 18-inch wheels.

The new rear-wheel drive SC 430 convertible will be powered by a 300-horsepower aluminum, double overhead-cam, 4.3-liter V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i), coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission.

Given that luxury amenities are the benchmark in the luxury category, the SC 430 will offer a multitude of convenience features including easy-to-read analog gauges, a navigation system, premium audio system, advanced climate control and sporty leather seats with memory functions for driver and passenger.

The SC 430, which will replace the current SC 400, will be Lexus’ third new product in a year. The IS 300 compact sport sedan debuts this summer and the LS 430 premium luxury sedan arrives in the fall.


TOP GAS GUZZLERS AND MOST FUEL-FRIENDLY VEHICLES

REDMOND, Wash., May 31 -- MSN™ CarPoint™ (http://www.carpoint.com/), the leading online automotive marketplace, today announced details on the top 10 cars that get the most and least miles per gallon.

At the top of the list of cars that get drivers to their destination with the least amount of fuel is the Honda Insight, providing 61 mpg around town and 71 mpg on the highway. Additional standouts include the Volkswagen Golf TDI and the Volkswagen Jetta TDI.

Sleek sports cars, including the Ferrari 550 Maranello with a fuel rating of 8 mpg in the city and 13 mpg on the highway, lead the pack of vehicles that cost consumers the most at the pump.
