Mitsubishi Announces 2003 Model Year Fleet Incentives
|
The 2003MY Mitsubishi fleet incentives are as follows:
|
Ford's New 6.0-Liter Power Stroke® Diesel Replaces 7.3-Liter
|
August 30, 2002 is the tentative final order due date
for the 7.3L Power Stroke® diesel engine (option code 99F). The engine,
which is offered on the F-Super Duty Series and Excursion, will be replaced
by an all-new 6.0L Power Stroke® diesel (option code 99P) starting
with November 4, 2002 production.
The new 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel produces 325hp at 3,300 rpm and 560 ft.-lbs. of torque at 2,000 rpm, topping the 7.3L engine in both. More torque allows a diesel engine to tow heavier loads, while enhancing the vehicle's performance feel. It also allows drivers to maintain speed without frequent transmission shifting; launch highly loaded trucks from rest with greater ease; and maintain speed while negotiating steep grades. In addition to the improved power rating, the new diesel will offer up to 10 percent better fuel economy and 20 percent lower emission levels. The engine also has reduced noise levels. With a newly designed five-speed gearbox and new electronic control system to help provide smoother shifts, the new TorqShift features higher first and second gear ratios to launch a truck loaded with cargo quickly and smoothly. In addition, the new automatic transmission features a driver-selected Tow-Haul Mode that senses when conditions call for increased engine braking and automatically schedules the appropriate downshift. The grade-braking feature works directly with the speed control to help maintain the desired speed while descending grades. |

Toyota recently announced that effective August 13, 2002 the 2003 Sienna is no longer available for fleet ordering. Toyota added that no additional commercial pools would be built and that all orders received by the August deadline would be built as specified. A Toyota representative said the plant would continue to build retail units for approximately one more month before ending 2003 MY production at the Georgetown, KY plant before moving to the Princeton, IN plant where the all-new, redesigned 2004 Sienna will be built. The 2004 Sienna is expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships in the spring of 2003. |

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., has announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the Tundra full-size pickup, which is now beginning to arrive at dealer showrooms. The MSRP for Tundra 4x2 models ranges from $15,955 for the V6 five-speed manual Regular Cab to $27,705 for the V8 automatic Limited StepSide Access Cab. MSRP for Tundra 4x4 models range from $23,755 for the V8 automatic SR5 Regular Cab to $31,045 for the V8 automatic Limited StepSide Access Cab. Tundra prices, including enhanced equipment levels, have increased by $333, or 1.4 percent above last year's prices. All new for 2003 is a StepSide model that is designed to attract full-size pickup buyers who want to add a little flair to their trucks. The StepSide comes in an Access Cab and is available in SR5 and Limited models and in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. It houses the 4.7-liter i-Force V8 engine that delivers 240 horsepower and 315 lbs.-ft. of torque. What distinguishes the StepSide styling from the rest of the Tundra lineup is the addition of a StepSide bed with unique tail lamps. The tail lamps pull back over the rear wheel arches for a sleek appearance. The StepSide interior bed width between wheel wells and the bed length remain the same as a regular Tundra bed, while bed depth is increased by nearly two inches. Tundra receives numerous enhancements for 2003 including a re-designed front fascia with a grille that extends down into the front bumper and round fog lamps that convey a more aggressive appearance. On the SR5 model, the front fascia and grille are color-keyed with chrome accents, while the Limited model is completely color-keyed. Value is enhanced with the addition of new 17-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment on Limited and SR5 models equipped with a Sport Suspension Package. The Limited also includes a new power sliding rear window. All Tundra models now feature ABS as standard equipment. Inside, Tundra receives as standard equipment a new multi-function center console, AM/FM/CD audio on the SR5 model and steering wheel audio controls on the Limited model. |
Volvo XC90 SUV Pricing Starts at $35,100
Volvo Cars of North America, LLC recently announced pricing for its first-ever sport utility vehicle, the all-new 2003 XC90. When the vehicle initially goes on sale in November it will be offered in two all-wheel-drive versions the XC90 AWD and the XC90 AWD T6. The XC90 AWD models will be equipped with Volvo's electronically controlled all-wheel drive system, a $1,750 stand-alone option, bringing the base price of the vehicle to $35,100. The base price for the XC90 AWD T6, which includes leather seating, a power glass moonroof and an in-dash CD audio system, is $39,975. A front-wheel-drive model is scheduled to go on sale in the first quarter of 2003 and will be priced at $33,500. The destination charge for all models is $625. The XC90 AWD is powered by a turbocharged inline 5-cylinder engine that generates 208 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 236 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,500-4,500 rpm. The T6 model has a more powerful twin turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 268 hp at 5,100 rpm and 280 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,800-5,000 rpm. Volvo calls XC90 "the next-generation SUV" for its innovative safety features, which include Roll Stability Control System, pretension seatbelts in all seating positions, an inflatable side curtain air bag for 3rd row seats, an integrated sliding center child booster seat, and high-strength Boron steel roof structure. Other safety features include Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC), ABS, whiplash protection seats and side-impact protection system (SIPS). |
GM to Reduce Mid-Sized Car Lineup
|
Bloomberg reports that GM is planning to streamline its car lineup by eliminating 5 of its 15 mid-sized models by 2006. GM sources say the action will help the automaker to reduce manufacturing and development costs and allow them to better focus their marketing strategies on the remaining lineup. In a memo called "Product Portfolio Through 2005", GM confirmed that 2004 will be the final model year for the Buick Century and Oldsmobile Alero. The 2003 Aurora is now in its final model year run. |
