Ford Unveils 2004 F-650 and F-750, Announces Fleet Incentive
Ford Motor Company recently unveiled its new 2004 F-650 and F-750 Super Duty truck lineup at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas. For 2004, Ford is offering three cab configurations in this class, as well as a wider range of frames, axles, engines and transmissions. Three diesel engine families are available with a wide variety of horsepower choices. Customers also can choose between ten manual and seven automatic transmissions. The base engine will be an all-new direct injection, 32-valve, 6.0-liter Power Stroke® diesel with four power ranges, generating up to 230 horsepower and 620 foot-pounds of torque. Other engine offerings include a 3126 Caterpillar 7.2-liter diesel with up to 300 hp and 860 foot-pounds of torque, and a 5.9-liter Cummins ISB diesel engine (available late spring 2003) with up to 260 hp and 660 foot-pounds of torque. There is a choice of three cab configurations: Regular Cab, four-door SuperCab, and four-door Crew Cab, each with a wider variety of seating choices than last year. There are 38 wheelbase choices up from 11 last year, which allow the trucks to be easily upfitted using a wide spectrum of body types. Customers also can choose from nine different frames. An array of rear axles is offered including two-speed axles and single-speed axles with driver-controlled locking differentials. There are five multi-leaf and five air suspensions to choose from. Air suspension is offered on all models, with or without air brakes, and ten fuel tank combinations are available. Each of these design elements and others have been packaged to allow for the most fuel capacity and highest ground clearances for given applications especially those requiring clear frame rails for skirted bodies. In addition, Ford offers a low profile cab, ideal for height-restricted applications. Tractor versions also are available as an F-650 and F-750, in all cab configurations. Production, Pricing and National Fleet Incentive At introduction, base prices for 2004 models are increased by an average of 4%, including powertrain options, over 2003 models. This increase reflects approximately 3% for 2004-model emissions requirements and the industry-wide upgrade of the Allison AT-545 automatic transmission to the Allison 2000; and 1% for other equipment actions and pricing. Destination charges are unchanged from 2003 model pricing. The National Fleet Incentive (56M) for the 2004 F-650/750 is $4,200 up from $3,500 last year. Completed vehicles purchased from certain body manufacturers may not be eligible for fleet incentives. Order banks for the new F-650/750 are now open and Job #1 production is tentatively scheduled for 12/9/02. |

Ford recently issued a notice to fleet managers outlining changes to the Taurus LX and SE retail arrays and 3.0L FFV engine availability. Below is a clarification of the changes to help clear up any confusion. Effective 9/18/02, Taurus LX and SE Arrays 100A (P52 LX Sedan), 210A (P53 SE Sedan) and 500A (P58 SE Wagon Standard) are no longer available for retail ordering. Ford will continue to offer these Arrays to Fleet customers who have a valid Ford Fleet Identification Number (FIN). This action will, however, impact vehicle selection when purchasing a unit out of stock. 2003 Taurus Fleet Arrays are not affected by this change. All Fleet Arrays continue to be offered with a standard 3.0L V6 engine or an optional 3.0L FFV engine. |

|
Please be advised that the 2003 Nissan Maxima is no longer available for ordering. ARI received a notice from Nissan Fleet on September 5, 2002 stating that the final order due date was scheduled for September 12, 2002. The early cutoff is due, in part, to a plant changeover that will take place immediately following the final 2003 build. Nissan is moving Maxima production from Japan to a plant located in Smyrna, TN. An all-new, fully redesigned 2004 Maxima is scheduled for release during the spring of 2003. Nissan has indicated that there will be no Fleet allocation at the time of release and did not provide a timeframe for Fleet availability. |

Jeep® Unveils a New Logo; Relaunches Popular Tag Line
|
Beginning later this month, Jeep® brand vehicles will be marketed with an advertising tag line from the 80's and an all new logo. The changes were designed to capture the brand's core values of "fun, freedom and legendary capability," the automaker said. The new logo, which is the first change in the 60-plus year history of the Jeep brand, is a graphic representation of the front grille and windshield of the Wrangler. The "Jeep" trademark is centered within the windshield. The "Only in a Jeep" tagline that was first used by American Motors Corporation to market Jeep vehicles from 1984-89 will replace the current "Jeep. There's Only One". |
