1999 CHEVY EXPRESS

Whether outfitted as the ultimate family travel vehicle or as a hardworking business partner, Chevy Express full-size vans are versatile performers.

"Our Chevy Express vans provide amazing versatility," said John Gaydash, Chevy Express brand manager. "With Chevy Express van, both our personal-use and professional-use customers can get the right tool for the job."

For 1999, Chevy Express and the newly renamed Chevy Express Cargo Van are able to satisfy a wide variety of customers. Both vans feature a wide range of model choices including G1500, G2500, G3500 series, and two wheelbases (135" and 155" on 2500 and 3500 models).

All models provide a long list of safety and security features. For example, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, daytime running lamps, next generation driver and front-passenger air bags and reinforced safety-cage construction are all provided as standard equipment -- credentials unmatched by any other full-size van.

For additional security, all Chevy Express vans feature the Passlock® theft-deterrent system. It will not allow the vehicle to start unless the proper key is used.

Chevy Express models provide impressive comfort and convenience features. The front wheelwells are positioned for easy entry and exit -- which are complimented by generous legroom and easy access to the rear. Chevy Express can seat up to 15 passengers (available on G3500 Extended Wheelbase models) for the ultimate people mover.

Chevy Express Cargo Vans and Passenger Vans with rear seats removed, provide up to 316.8 cubic feet of cargo room (Extended Wheelbase models), making them the ultimate cargo movers as well.

Items such as air conditioning, Scotchgard® protection, intermittent wipers and a Tilt-Wheel steering column are standard on Chevy Express Passenger Vans.

On the exterior, Chevy Express offers additional thoughtful features. For example, concealed rear-door hinges are less susceptible to corrosion and allow the rear doors to be opened wide for easy loading/unloading of large, bulky objects. On side doors, customers are able to choose -- at no extra cost -- between a 60/40 panel door or a sliding door (sliding door not available on Cargo model with Upfitter Package).

Commercial customers especially appreciate Chevy Express' large roof drip rails that not only channel rain away from the doors, but also provide a convenient place to anchor aftermarket rooftop accessories. Chevy Express Cargo Van also offers a wide range of door and window configurations to suit the customer.

Chevy Express Cargo Van offers a comprehensive Upfitter Package for authorized van converters. This package provides a basic vehicle that's ready to receive the customer features and touches that help make Chevy Express Cargo Van an ideal vehicle for recreation and travel.

Under the hood, G1500-series models and the G2500 Cargo Van feature the standard Vortec 4300 V6, the G2500 Passenger Van, and all G3500 models feature the Vortec 5700 V8. Depending on model, optional engines include the Vortec 5000 V8, Vortec 7400 big block V8 and the 6.5 Liter Turbo-Diesel V8 -- truly a versatile lineup.

Chevy Express and Chevy Express Cargo Van are ready and willing to get the job done .

In August, Toyota announced that "on a sales weighted average, Corolla and Camry prices remained, essentially, unchanged for 1999." Prices for the all-new Camry Solara Sport Coupe range from $18,638 to $24,988. See ARI Purchasing News, number 817, dated August 24, 1998 for details.

1999 ESCALADE

The Escalade goes on sale at Cadillac dealers in the U.S. this fall. Production has already started at GM's Arlington, Texas assembly plant. Escalade's list of optional equipment is so extensive that no other options are available. A customer only needs to choose one of four exterior colors: Sable Black, Aspen White, Silver Sand or Bordeaux Red.

The retail price is $46,525 including the destination charge
of $600. All Escalades will have four-wheel drive. Inside, the Escalade will be equipped with heated seats, a Bose audio system with a six-disc CD changer and wood trim. A 255-hp Vortec
V-8 is the only engine offered. Seats are covered in the same "Nuance" leather as other Cadillac models.

The all-new Escalade is the very first sport utility vehicle in the 96-year history of Cadillac.

As an added feature it is equipped with the all-new OnStar three-button vehicle communications system, which includes an integrated console positioned in the headliner. Since no "Fleet Allocation" will be available for the entire 1999 model year, it is recommended that these vehicles be purchased as a "direct" or "stock" purchase from a local dealer. ARI will monitor the situation and announce any change.
