GM Prices up an average of $63

According to the June 7, 1999 issue of Automotive News, an auto industry weekly publication, GMs Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac divisions increased prices an average of $63 on May 17, 1999. This is GM's second general price hike since the introduction of the 1999 models. Prices went up an average of $73 in mid January.

This increase brings GM's average increase to 2.4% or an average of $532 since the end of the 1998 model year.

Nissan Releases some 2000 prices

During the first week of June Nissan released the price of its 2000 Maxima sedans. The base GXE is down $450 from the 1999 model and the top-of- the-line GLE is down $650. The mid-range SE is up $150.

The price of Nissan's new 2000 Xterra Sport Utility will start at $17,869. It goes on sale this month. The Xterra fits between the Honda CR-V (at $18,965) and the Toyota RAV4 (at $16,838).

Nissan's Frontier pickup prices were also announced, along with this price notice, and their prices were up only slightly from 1999 prices.

TOYOTA OFFERS PRICE ASSURANCE

Toyota announced on April 26, 1999, that price assurance is available with prior approval from the TMS (Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.) Corporate Fleet Department on "J" category fleet orders for the models listed below only.

"TMS assures that 2000 model introduction price levels on advance fleet orders received at TMS no later than Thursday, September 16, 1999 and subsequently approved, assigned, and scheduled through November 1999 production, will not exceed August 1, 1999 model TMS dealer invoice price level plus increases resulting from any changes (including specification changes, safety equipment and required emissions equipment), plus 2 percent for Corolla, Camry, Tacoma, RAV4, 4Runner and 3 percent for Solara and Sienna, plus 5 percent for Avalon."

In addition, on this same date, TMS announced the 2000 Model Year Commercial Fleet Incentive Invoice Credit Program. Eligible "J" category ordered units will be identified by a factory accessory code (H1) for approved commercial fleets on the following three vehicles: Corolla $700, Camry $300 and Tacoma Truck $1,300.

More details are available from Toyota Fleet or your ARI Representative.

Free Dodge Intrepid Equipment Package

DaimlerChrysler Fleet Operations will offer a "free" Commercial Fleet package on the 2000 MY base Dodge Intrepid.

The Commercial Safety/Convenience group ( order code - AWC ) will include:

* Remote/Keyless Entry (AJF)

* Power Driver Seat (JPV)

* Daytime Running Lights (LMK) - U.S. only since it is already standard in Canada.

(note: ONLY code AWC - coding AJF, JPV, or LMK in addition to AWC will cause an order error. )

This package will be available at no charge to all eligible Fleet accounts that acquire vehicles through the 2000 MY Fleet Purchase/Daily Rental Purchase Program (Commercial and Daily Rental Risk customers ONLY). This package will be in addition to any published 2000 MY allowances on Dodge Intrepid models.

GM & TOYOTA ANNOUNCED A TECHNOLOGY AGREEMENT

General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. announced on April 19, 1999, a five-year collaboration to speed development of advanced technology vehicles in the 21st century.

"This agreement could define the future of the automobile," GM Vice Chairman Harry Pearce said in announcing, with Toyota Executive Vice President Akihiro Wada, the joint efforts on electric, hybrid electric and fuel cell technologies.

The companies have identified more than a dozen advanced vehicle and system projects that will be researched together, potentially involving hundreds of engineers.

The agreement calls for development of:

* A common set of electric traction and control components for future battery electric, hybrid electric and fuel cell electric vehicles.

* Batteries and battery test procedures, vehicle safety requirements, and continued work on improved inductive charging systems for battery electric vehicles.

* Powertrain and control systems for next generation hybrid electric vehicles.

* Future systems design, fuel selection and processing to support production of fuel cell powered vehicles.

The companies stressed that while the future for advanced technology vehicles is unclear, whatever technology is adopted must be widely available.
