Success in reaching a higher goal
The Tennessee Valley Authority, a public agency and leading supplier of wholesale power, is committed to social responsibility and practices what it preaches. TVA wanted to distinguish itself as a reliable, cost-efficient operation and set a standard for other utilities in the seven-state region it serves. The agency achieved its goal through a major initiative that reduced operating costs. Outsourcing vehicle maintenance was just one of the many actions taken, and with the help of ARI, TVA saves millions of dollars in maintenance costs every year. The agency was able to cut fleet size from 4,500 to 2,800 vehicles and has eliminated the need for five full-service garages.
Where efficiency (and cost-efficiency) rule
Operating efficiency and value purchasing are two key priorities for a Canadian utility that supplies power to more than half a million homes and businesses. The utility operated two internal garages and used many maintenance vendors throughout the province. Fleet management turned to ARI for help in setting up an effective maintenance reporting and management system to save time and money. We saved both time and money through our Garage Management System, streamlining the maintenance process and keeping vehicles in excellent working order at all times to help the utility minimize the effect of power interruptions. By consolidating all maintenance-repair data in one central system and enabling the operation to run more smoothly, we generated savings of $163,000 for the year.
