Ford lowers mpg estimates on 6 models after internal audit

Ford Motor Co. is lowering fuel economy estimates on 6 key models, including several hybrid cars, to more accurately depict real-world fuel efficiency. MPG is so significant to fleet managers that it could be the deciding factor as to which manufacturer to choose. If a fleet manager made a buying decision based on Ford’s numbers, the differences in fuel efficiency could mean tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars lost from your fleet budget. Ford said it will make goodwill payments to consumers who leased or purchased the affected vehicles, but there may be secondary costs for fleets to deal with.
