How to Turn Data into Actionable Strategies Using Analytics

Every day, each fleet vehicle generates hundreds of data points and while this information can be extremely valuable, managing the data and translating it into something meaningful or actionable presents a daunting challenge for even the most seasoned fleet manager. Not only do fleet managers have to determine an effective method to manage and integrate this data, they also have to evaluate the information and interpret it properly to help reveal what their fleet is trying to tell them.

As a follow-up to last month’s Fleet Financials article, the September issue of Automotive Fleet features ARI’s Don Woods along with several of his peers from across the industry discussing how to turn analytical knowledge into actionable, cost-saving strategies. In the article, Woods, department head, Client Information Systems (CIS), looks at the critical questions fleet managers must to be prepared to answer in order to get the most out our their fleet’s data.

Woods goes on to say, “there is real power in data, which can serve as the catalyst for introducing significant and positive change throughout a fleet. But, analytics involves more than just having the data. Fleet managers must make sure they understand what the data is telling them, which means they need systems to help them make sense of it all. Meaningful action and genuine cost savings can only be uncovered once you have the ability to not just see the data, but to understand it as well.”
